My thinking here is to allow Knowledge Base articles that were initially created as placeholders by KB moderators to transfer ownership of the topic to the person that came up with the idea once they've been directed to the CT.
OK for this particular use case it makes sense. But this needs to be audited and show up in the history (even just as an admin feature)
I've brought this up before in this topic allthough not as specific as this topic title.
For the record, i'll post my latest response here too since it specifically applies to this.
Some time has passed since this was last discussed and quite a few things have changed.
The fact the KB upvotes are now only worth 1 point makes it easier to assign a new owner to a topic.
Also, new kinds of topics are starting to get added. Guides on codecs, media conversion, ripping and migrations. Those are created by users with extensive knowledge about the subject.
Those people don’t always have access to create KB topics, but are willing to contribute.
Since these are the experts on the particular subject, they should also be the ones that review pending improvements that others make on “their” topics.
I think that it should be possible to assign a new owner to a Knowledgebase topic. This shouldn’t be tied to reputation, but only by admins with the additional privilege.
Since this will often be done right after a placeholder is created this will not affect previous upvotes, since there aren’t any. If there are, then those should simply be moved to the new owner. It is my understanding this is done automatically at the moment.
The side effect of this though would be that the new owner wouldn’t get any reputation for the initial few edits he/she is likely to make.
