If there's a connection timeout a user is not aware until manual refresh [chat]

It seems the chat windows can easily timeout on either the client or server side.

The past few days there were some serverside timeouts which kicked everyone out temprorarily.

• Users don’t see new messages appear from others anymore when that happens
• when you type the messages they are posted in chat, but you cannot see your own chat lines appear though until a refresh of the page.

Perhaps it’s possible to better visualize the connection status of the chat window with an indicator below the users online box.
