Please add an additional admin function link on a user’s profile page so an admin can act on that user’s behalf (answering questions for example).

this so that the admin is not required to go through the admin panel / manage users to do the same thing

Another alternative to impersonation, would be to change how the “Accept Answer” link that is displayed on a response works. I think it would be much easier(and more intuitive) if when clicking “Accept Answer”, the user that posted the response was the user id used instead of the person clicking it when determining credit. This should also probably be applied to the Design, Workaround, and Steps to Reproduce tabs.

Edit: It just occurred to me that the Accept Link might already work in this way. Can someone clarify to me what exactly happens when an admin DOES NOT impersonate a user and clicks Accept on one of the user’s answer? Does the user get the rep/badge or the admin?

  • Currently the admin gets the rep and badge which is not good – birkoff about 1 year ago
  • But indeed a better idea :) – birkoff about 1 year ago

Sam,

Can you clarify how the new functionality works regarding accepting answers on the behalf of users?

  • I tested this and we still need to imp to properly accept an answer and reward badge/rep. It would make things even easier if we can just accept using our own account so we don’t have to imp in the first place. – birkoff 11 months ago
